Alyson Peterson - artist

Peterson's work centers on the feminist issue of the undervalued and unseen woman. She works in watercolor, a medium historically undervalued; its marginalization aligns with her subject matter, and uses it to speak to women’s resilience, permanence, and sociological impact.

Peterson explores the female figure caught within negative cultural perceptions of motherhood and false perceptions of feminine perfection. Conversely, she also dives into the unpredictability of watercolor abstract as a voice to communicate pain and uncertainty surrounding the struggles and chaos of womanhood.

There is strength in a peaceful woman, showing she has control over herself and her fate. Peterson's feminine figures embrace softness, beauty, and calm while the fluid abstract functions as visual noise from a world insisting women must be loud to be seen.

Ms. Peterson has a BFA in Graphic Design and Illustration from Utah State University and studied at Beaux Art Academy with a focus on the classical figure.

Don't stress over dirty water. Life is messy enough.
